Why You'll Love This Recipe
Up your Taco Tuesday game with homemade Guacamole! Serve it with tortilla chips, tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, or whatever you're making tonight.
You'll want to make this fresh dip if you love snacks as much as I do. It's much better than store-bought and is surprisingly quick and easy to make in less than 10 minutes.

Ingredients
- Avocado: You need three hass avocados, peeled and pits removed. To choose a ripe avocado, gently press on the side of the avocado. It should have a little give to it. Read more about how to select a ripe avocado.
- Lime: Fresh lime juice is a must to make Guacamole tangy and bright.
- Cilantro: For me, this is an absolute MUST. It's my favorite herb! If you don't like cilantro, then leave it out. It's still delicious without it.
- Red Onion: Diced red onions give it a nice pop of color.
- Jalapeño: One minced jalapeño, with the seeds removed. If you like it spicier, leave the seeds in or replace them with a Serrano pepper. Don't like spice? No problem! Just leave it out.
- Sea Salt: A generous pinch of flaky sea salt to round out the flavors.

How to Make the Best Fresh Guacamole
- Half the avocados and remove the pits. Scoop the avocado into a medium bowl and mash with a fork until desired consistency.
- Add in the red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Stir until combined. Taste and season as needed.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Variations
Though I love this Classic Guacamole recipe as it is, here are some fun variations to try.
- Guacamole without onions. If you aren't into onions, you can easily make this recipe without onions. You'll still get that same great taste you love, minus the onions.
- Stir in some garlic. Another popular ingredient in guac is garlic. Stir in a clove of minced garlic.
- Chunky Guacamole. I love making my dip chunky. Avoid over-mashing the avocados and leave medium-sized chunks throughout to keep it chunky.
- Creamy Guacamole. If you're looking for a more creamy texture, make sure to mash the avocados until smooth and creamy, leaving no avocado chunks. You could even use a small food processor or blender to make it extra creamy.
- Stir in tomatoes. You can add diced roma or cherry tomatoes to this recipe.
- Add some fruit. Add fruit like diced mango, pineapple, or pomegranate seeds for a sweeter flavor.
- Cheesy twist. For a cheesy twist, stir in some crumbled cotija cheese.
- Give it more heat. Replace the jalapeño with a serrano pepper for more heat. For a more interesting flavor, use a Fresno pepper.
Serving Suggestions
My favorite way to eat this dip is with tortilla chips. It's the perfect appetizer or snack. Add it to your game day spread when watching the big football game or tailgating. It's even great at a BBQ, cookout, or Cinco de Mayo celebration.
It's also a delicious nacho or taco topping. Serve it with these Chicken Fajita Tacos, Sweet Potato Taco Bowls, or over Turkey and Black Bean Enchiladas.
Make Ahead and Storage
Though this recipe is best made right before serving, it is possible to make it a little in advance and even store the leftovers.
Make Ahead: You can chill for a little while, but avocados tend to go brown quickly and won't be as appealing to eat. I recommend making it within a reasonable time of serving.
To Store: To store, refrigerate it in an airtight container. Squeeze a little lime juice over the top to help prevent it from browning. Place plastic wrap over the top and gently press it against the top of the Guacamole. The more you can keep out air, the slower the dip will go brown. Before serving again, make sure to give it a good stir. You can always scrape off that top layer if it does get a little brown.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
When storing, add a squeeze of fresh lime juice on top to prevent Guacamole from turning brown. Also, press plastic wrap onto the surface of the Guacamole to minimize air exposure before storing it in an airtight container.
Traditional Guacamole is typically made with mashed avocado and sea salt. Other traditional ingredients include lime juice, onions, cilantro, and jalapeno.
